Now stick around so you can learn more about each product we mentioned and what you should look for when you're shopping for one!

1. Large Teapot by Firebelly Tea

Best Overall

This teapot by Firebelly Tea is our best overall pick due to its cool design, use of quality materials and excellent infuser.

We love the futurist yet minimalistic design of this teapot, which makes it standout from other more conventional looking teapots, and even looks good outside the kitchen. You can get this teapot in two colors: black or white.

Large Teapot by Firebelly Tea - Best Overall Teapot

We were not disappointed once we received this teapot. It's built of premium materials - the teapot itself is made of ceramic, the handle made of metal, and the infuser made of stainless steel. The lid includes a silicone seal which helps keep your tea warm for a longer time.

Talking about the infuser - it's one of the best we've come across. It's very ample which allows water to flow freely between the tea's loose leaves, and it has very small perforations for a debris-free tea. In addition, it goes quite deep into the teapot, which means you can prepare smaller quantities of tea as the water level will reach the infuser base and tea leaves.

Another benefit is that the teapot is dishwasher safe to make your life easier.

Pros:

  • Cool modern design made of premium materials
  • Excellent infuser
  • Keeps your tea warm
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons:

  • Cannot be used on any heating elements

2. Hiware Glass Teapot

Best Glass Teapot

This glass teapot is handcrafted and made from borosilicate glass, which makes it sturdy and tough against everyday clunks and bangs. If you’re a neat freak like us, then you would be happy to know that it is designed with a non-dripping spout.

The stainless steel mesh infuser for your loose leaf tea is removable for easier cleaning and the teapot is safe to be used with the microwave as well as both gas and electric stovetops. Just make sure to keep the heat no higher than medium.

One of the best parts about glass teapots is that they are dishwasher safe, as long as you use the top rack.

Pros:

  • Microwave and dishwasher safe
  • Easy to use and clean
  • Non-spill spout

Cons:

  • Some reports of cracking due to stovetop use
  • Non-whistling

3. Iwachu Japanese Cast Iron Teapot

Best Cast Iron Teapot

Let's get something out of the way. Good cast iron teapots are expensive, and this Japanese teapot is no exception. In the long run, however, a quality cast iron teapot can last decades so they are a good investment.

And we can assure you this is one of the best cast iron teapots in the world. The company which produces it, Iwachu, has over 120 years of experience in Nambu ironware, and is based in Morioka, located in Iwate Prefecture in Japan.

This region is famous for its Nambu ironware (nambu tekki). For over 400 years, traditional techniques have been passed from generation to generation to produce amongst the best teapots in the world.

So with this teapot, you know you're getting the real deal.

Make sure to check their different designs and colors on Amazon - they have a large selection!

Pros:

  • Beautiful timeless designs
  • True Nambu Tekki (Nambu Ironwork) - Traditional Craftwork of Japan
  • Enamel coating helps prevent rust
  • Includes stainless steel removable infuser
  • Very durable teapot

Cons:

  • A bit pricey
  • Not stovetop safe

4. Celebration Complete Blooming Tea Set by Teabloom

Best Value Tea Set

We have selected this set as our best teapot set due to its excellent value and quality items. At first, we were a bit skeptical given that this teapot set includes the following items, yet costs less than some of the teapots on this list.

  • A 40 oz (1.18 L) glass teapot
  • 4 3.4 oz (100 mL) double-walled glasses
  • A glass infuser
  • A glass tea warmer with a candle
  • A metal tray to place the teapot on top of the candle
  • 12 blooming teas

However, we were pleasantly surprised when we received this set! All components are beautifully crafted using borosilicate glass while the design is functional and practical.

Best teapot - best tea set

For example, the glasses are double-walled so they don't get hot. The teapot is not double-walled but the candle keeps your tea hot while making it look beautiful, especially if you use one of the blooming teas included or loose leaf teas.

The tea warmer gets reasonably hot (it will not burn you) despite housing the candle. The infuser sits close to the bottom, which means you can prepare small quantities of tea. We filled the teapot all the way to the top and managed to remove the infuser without burning ourselves!

This teapot is dishwasher safe which is perfect if you are always tight on time. However, we always recommend hand washing your tea sets - dishwashers are highly abrasive and will shorten the lifespan of any item.

Finally, this teapot is stove-top safe, but again, we recommend boiling water using a separate kettle.

The blooming teas included with this set are delicious and mesmerizing to look at.

The only con about this tea set is that the double-walled drinking glasses are made of very thin glass. So they are likely quite fragile. I'm clumsy so I need to be extra careful when handling this tea set.

Pros:

  • Excellent value
  • Beautifully glass teaware
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Stovetop safe
  • Includes 12 blooming teas

Cons:

  • The glasses are made of very thin materials; they seem fragile.

5. Whistling Tea Kettle by Caraway

Best Stainless Steel Design

If you want to splurge and you're looking for something that will last forever, then this whistling tea kettle by Caraway is for you.

Its ceramic coated stainless-steel body is beautifully designed, and it comes in 7 colors (at the time of writing). You can get this tea kettle in cream, navy, gray, perracotta, marigold, sage and mist colors.

With a capacity of a 2 qt (64 oz, 1.9 L), this tea kettle is designed to quickly boil water, thanks to the excellent heat retention qualities of the materials used. All materials are non-toxic and ethically sourced.

Stainless steel teapots are amongst the most durable, potentially more than cast iron ones. This is because you don't have to worry about rust. Further, there is no enamel (like most cast iron teapots) so you can use it on any stove on maximum heat without any concerns.

In term of cons, this is a tea kettle so it does not include a tea strainer - it is a kettle after all. In addition, it's quite pricey. But again, due to the excellent workmanship and Caraway's reputation, we expect this kettle to last decades.

Like all traditional kettles, you should get a thermometer since as you know, back tea, green tea, and herbal teas require different water temperatures.

Pros

  • Beautiful design in 7 colors
  • Stainless steel with ceramic coating
  • Excellent durability
  • Non-toxic materials
  • Whistling Kettle

Cons

  • This is a kettle so it does not have an infuser
  • Pricey

6. Cuisinium Glass Teapot

Runner-Up Best Glass Teapot

While this teapot is the runner-up, it features greater durability with stovetop use than the Hiware Glass teapot.

It is perfect for everyday use as it is also made of borosilicate glass, and it is safe to be used in the microwave as long as the stainless steel parts are removed beforehand, such as the tea infuser for your loose tea.

Cleaning the teapot is convenient as it is dishwasher safe. And it comes with a couple of gifts: an ebook, a sleeve to keep the water warm, and a coaster, which also makes it the perfect gift for tea lovers!

Pros:

  • Microwave, stovetop and dishwasher safe
  • Easy to use and clean
  • Ergonomic handle for a firm grip

Cons:

  • Handle may get hot
  • Infuser sits too far from the bottom

7. Nambu Ironware Oigen Tetsubin Kettle

Best Tetsubin

Are you looking for a true Tetsubin? Then look no further!

This tetsubin is made by Oigen, based in Oshu in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. This company has produced Nambu ironware for over 160 years using traditional techniques passed down over 5 generations. These techniques include baking the ironware many times over charcoal fire, for example.

Nambu Tekki (Nambu ironware) crafts from Iwate prefecture are considered Traditional Craftwork of Japan, including this tetsubin.

Beware that this is a tetsubin, meaning, it does not come with an infuser and is not enamel coated. The intent is to use it as a kettle.

Just make sure you thoroughly dry this tetsubin to avoid rust. If you take good care of it, this tetsubin could outlive you! So it's a good investment despite being pricey.

Pros:

  • Stovetop safe
  • Beautiful timeless design
  • True Nambu Tekki Tetsubin - Traditional Craftwork of Japan
  • No enamel coating means higher potential durability

Cons:

  • No infuser
  • Requires a bit more maintenance

8. RSVP Large Stoneware Chai Teapot

Best Stoneware Teapot

This might be one of the most colorful sets of tea kettles available on the market, as it comes in 8 beautiful and vibrant colors!

It is generously large with a 42oz capacity, which is the perfect teapot for large gatherings. It is also very convenient as it is dishwasher and microwave safe.

Although it is safe to use on the stovetop for heating the water, keep in mind that they are fragile and could crack easily. One recommendation is to keep the heat on low for a gradual increase in temperature.

Pros:

  • Perfect for everyday use
  • Great for a tight budget
  • Comes in 8 beautiful colors

Cons:

  • Some report dripping from the spout while pouring
  • Does not include infuser

  • Great for entertaining guests
  • Comes in 3 different colors
  • Beautiful & elegant design

Cons:

  • Rack is not included
  • Might be expensive for some

How to Find the Best Loose Leaf Teapot

Teapot vs Tea Kettle

Many people use both terms interchangeably, so sometimes this can be confusing! We are also guilty of doing the same... Even though some teapots also function as a tea kettle, many don’t! So you want to make sure you are making the right selection based on your needs.

Teapots are used to hold hot water for steeping the tea and serving it only. They are not meant to be used to heat up the water on a stove. This is due to the material used in teapots, which includes ceramic, porcelain, enamel and glass. On the other hand, tea kettles are mainly used to heat up and pour hot water on a teapot or mug. This can be done either by using an electric or gas stovetop or an outlet if you have an electric kettle.

It is when the teapot features a stainless steel base, for instance, that it can be used to heat up the water on a stove. This is when a teapot also functions as a tea kettle.

Some Features to Look for in the Best Teapot

  • Temperature Controls
It is recommended to also own an electric tea kettle that has built-in temperature controls. This takes the guesswork out of the art of brewing tea and ensures that your green tea will never taste bitter again!
  • Infuser
Some teapots will come with a built in infuser that cannot be detached - STAY AWAY from these teapots. Some of the best teapots come with a removable infuser for easier and better cleaning, as well as allowing the removal of the leaves so the tea does not become bitter due to over brewing.
  • Size
Finally, it is important to keep an eye on the size of the teapot as it is largely dependent on your style of brewing. If you prefer to have more than a couple cups of tea, then opt-in for a larger teapot, and vice versa.

Different Types of Teapots

  • Glass
Glass teapots are made to add a visual dimension to the delicate art of brewing tea, such as brewing the beautiful Butterfly Pea tea!

The glass allows the tea drinker to see the leaves as they unfurl, steep and transfer their color to the hot water. It is also ideal for brewing flowering teas, as the flower petals and tea leaves unfold and put on a mesmerizing and colorful show!

One thing to remember is that these teapots are delicate. So if you are as clumsy as I am, then look for glass teapots that are made of borosilicate glass, which is made to be stronger and withstand some light bangs.

They are dishwasher safe, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning the teapot once you are done with it. And some are even stovetop safe.
  • Cast Iron
Cast iron teapots usually have a low profile and a wide brewing compartment. They have some of the most beautiful designs and are made to be displayed around the kitchen!

These teapots are durable and can also be used to heat the water on a stovetop. They are excellent at retaining heat for multiple infusions, because cast iron is less conductive and can hold the heat for longer.

Some will feature an enamel coating which prevents it from rusting and allows the pot to brew different types of tea without retaining any flavor. While others that are made only of cast iron will retain flavor and are best for brewing one main type of tea.

Best of all, cast iron teapots are known to improve the quality of the water by releasing iron into your tea. If you’re like me and have an iron deficiency, then this is the best teapot to buy!

Some cast iron teapots are known as Tetsubin, which are Japanese cast iron kettles. Their purpose is to heat water, so they may not come with an infuser.
  • Clay & Stoneware
If you are looking for a more traditional way to enjoy the art of tea making, then clay and stoneware tea kettles are for you! The earliest teapots were made from clay and stone that were sourced from quarries throughout Asia.

Drinking tea like our ancestors did, has a certain vibe to it, as the experience transports you thousands of years back to a time where the art of tea making was part of a ceremony. Even things like the color of the clay indicated from which region it was sourced and was essential for those ceremonies!

These tea kettles are great as they naturally retain heat, have low seepage and brew the tea leaves quickly. If that's what you are looking for, then these might be the best teapots for you!
  • Ceramic & Porcelain
Ceramic teapots and porcelain teapots originated from China more than 1,000 years ago and are now popular in Britain & France. These tea kettles are fired in high heat and usually feature a glazed coating that adds a beautiful and elegant shine to it.

The highest quality ceramic teapots and porcelain teapots are handmade, while the high heat makes the clay extremely dense, which enables these pots to be chip and heat resistant. Fine bone china ones are amongst the best given they result in very thin teapots and cups.

So if you want to drink tea like royalty, then look for fine china ones might be the best teapots for you!
